Quizlet alternatives: free and paid options compared (2026)
The closest free replacement for Quizlet is Knowt, which imports your Quizlet sets in one click and keeps Learn mode free. If you want flashcards that schedule themselves for the long term, Anki is free on computers and Android and is the most capable option. If you'd rather not use AI at all, Anki is the cleanest choice. We make Decks, one of the apps below, so we've stuck to facts each app publishes about itself. Prices were checked in October 2026.
Why people look for an alternative
Quizlet's paid plans unlock unlimited rounds of Learn, complete practice tests and ad-free studying, which means the free plan limits Learn and practice tests and shows ads. That's the usual reason people search for something else. Prices vary by country; Quizlet's upgrade page shows the current price for yours.

"Not covered here" means the app's own pages don't say, so we haven't claimed either way.
Knowt: closest to Quizlet
Knowt is built to replace Quizlet. Its browser extension imports Quizlet sets with one click, and Learn mode, practice tests, spaced repetition and flashcards are all free. The paid Ultra plan adds AI tools (PDF and lecture summaries, an AI tutor) and removes ads. Pick it if you want Quizlet's study modes without the limits and don't mind an AI-heavy app.
Anki: free, powerful, more setup
Anki is the long-standing open-source flashcard app. The computer version and AnkiDroid are free, AnkiWeb sync is free, and the iPhone app, AnkiMobile, is a one-time purchase. It has no built-in AI, thousands of shared decks, and the most control over how cards are scheduled, including FSRS. The trade-off is setup: options, note types and add-ons take time to learn. Our guides on new cards per day and FSRS help.
Moving a Quizlet set to Anki: Quizlet lets you export your own sets as text with a term and definition on each line, and Anki can import a text file with one note per line.
Brainscape: ready-made expert decks
Brainscape's free plan includes unlimited cards you make yourself, spaced repetition and 2,500 pre-made certified flashcards. Pro ($7.99 a month, billed yearly) unlocks unlimited certified decks, images and sound on cards, and reverse flashcards. Its AI can make cards, with a limit on the free plan.
RemNote: notes and flashcards in one
RemNote combines note-taking with flashcards: you write notes and turn lines into cards. The free plan has unlimited notes and flashcards with limits on PDFs, image occlusion and AI credits. Pro is $96 a year. It's a good fit if your flashcards come from lecture notes.
Mochi: simple and offline
Mochi is a simple flashcard app with desktop, mobile and web versions. The free plan works offline without limits; Pro ($5 a month) adds sync across devices, publishing and AI integration.
Decks: language decks on iPhone
Decks is our app. It's an iPhone flashcard app with Anki-style SM-2 scheduling and free, ready-made decks for Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, French and German, with native audio. It's free, with an optional Premium subscription that raises the daily review limit. It doesn't run on Android, iPad or computers, can't import Quizlet sets or Anki .apkg files, and doesn't offer FSRS. Pick it if you're learning one of those languages on an iPhone and want to start with a deck that already exists.
Alternatives without AI
Several people now search for Quizlet alternatives with no AI. Of the apps above:
- Anki has no built-in AI.
- Mochi's free plan has no AI; AI integration is part of Pro.
- Decks has two optional AI features: it can suggest cards, which you check before adding, and answer questions about a card. You can study without either.
- Knowt, Brainscape and RemNote feature AI prominently.
Which one to choose
- You want Quizlet without the limits: Knowt.

- You're studying for a professional exam and want expert-made decks: Brainscape.
