100 Beginner Spanish Sentences (Latin American Spanish)

These are the first 100 of the 1,224 sentences in the Beginner Spanish Sentences deck: short, everyday Latin American Spanish, with native audio in the app. The cards show the English sentence first and ask you to produce the Spanish, which is harder than recognising it and builds speaking rather than only reading.

Some sentences come in more than one version, marked "(male)" or "(female)", because Spanish adjectives agree with the speaker or the person described: Estoy enfermo for a man, Estoy enferma for a woman.

How to study sentence cards

  • Answer out loud before you flip. Say the whole Spanish sentence, then check it against the card and the audio.
  • Count small differences as right. If you said Muy bien, gracias and the card has Muy bien. Gracias., that's Good. Spaced repetition works best when you rate what you knew, not punctuation.
  • Mix in single words. Sentences give context; single words give speed. Spanish Picture Starter and Spanish Frequency 5000 cover the vocabulary these sentences are built from.
